THE WEEKLY EDIT

Monday, 19 October 2026 · Your week in Segovia

---

## The city we notice.

Good morning, Segovia.

A city reveals itself in the things we grow used to: the corner where we wait for a bus, the coffee we order without thinking, the house we pass on the way to somewhere better known. This week, we pause at all three.

We also welcome a new voice to The Segovian, look ahead to an evening of strings at the Juan Bravo and follow the city into San Frutos week. There is a table to keep in mind for your next walk through the old town, too.

Three stories. Two plans. One place. Here is your **3–2–1.**

## 3 · Stories worth your time

### 1\. A more dignified wait at Colón

**El Editorial.** Six routes meet at a stop where shelter and somewhere to sit are still missing. Our editorial asks what a better wait might look like, especially for older passengers and anyone standing in the rain. A practical question about public transport becomes a question about everyday care.

### 2\. A new voice: Sures and the everyday art of coffee

**Introducing Dr. Suresraj Therambarajoo.** An educator and strategic policy analyst who has called Segovia home for five years, Sures joins our opinion pages with *Liquid Alchemy*. His first contribution takes a familiar Spanish ritual seriously enough to enjoy its humour: coffee as an ordinary, indispensable part of getting through the day.

His interests range from literature and travel to sport and photography. We are pleased to welcome his curiosity, and his perspective on the place we share.

### 3\. The Painter Across from the Alcázar

**Segovia Stories.** Maurice Fromkes found a lasting place in museum collections. The house where he lived in Segovia has had a less certain fate. Our new feature follows the painter from New York to Castile, through his portraits and the people who gathered around him and his wife, Eva.

It ends with an invitation of its own: visit the garden that bears his name, sit for a while and look across the Eresma valley.

### Wednesday: Cuerda para Rato

**21 October · 20:00 · Teatro Juan Bravo.** Segovia’s orchestra of plucked strings brings bandurrias, lutes, mandolins and guitars to the Sociedad Filarmónica programme. An evening to put the phone away and listen to what a roomful of strings can do.

Doors open at 19:30\. General admission is listed at €21; check availability and any booking charges before purchasing.

## 1 · Place worth discovering

### La Almuzara: a different table in the old town

On Calle del Marqués del Arco, close to the Cathedral and on the walk towards the Alcázar, La Almuzara offers a different starting point for lunch. Its vegetarian menu, as described by Turismo de Segovia, centres on salads, pasta, pizzas and desserts, in a small, art-filled dining room.

Make it part of an unhurried afternoon: a meal, a walk towards Fromkes’s old house and perhaps a pause in the garden nearby. It is a reminder that the historic centre has room for more than one kind of appetite.

**Calle del Marqués del Arco, 3 · +34 921 460 622.**
Turismo de Segovia lists Monday and Tuesday as closed. Call to confirm current opening and the menu before visiting.
