What keeps bringing me back to Canavan’s is the music. The ’80s, ’90s and 2000s are the soundtrack I love, and hearing them in a setting with the feel of an English or Irish pub makes this one of my favourite places for a night out in Segovia.

There is a particular pleasure in finding somewhere that meets you through music you already know. For me, that familiarity is part of Canavan’s appeal. It gives the evening an easy starting point.

Then comes the change of scene. On my visits, around midnight, doors open into a nightclub with ornate décor reminiscent of French Baroque and Rococo. The soundtrack moves towards contemporary music, and the evening takes on a different rhythm. That contrast between the pub atmosphere and the more theatrical club setting is what makes the place memorable to me.

IE students are part of the crowd, alongside local people. I enjoy that mix and find the atmosphere vibrant and welcoming. It is somewhere I associate with having a good time and seeing another side of the city.

This is a personal recommendation for readers who enjoy familiar songs and an evening that can turn into dancing. Segovia’s social life takes different forms, and this is one I am happy to share.

Find it: Plaza de la Rubia, 2, Segovia.
Check the venue’s current programme and entry arrangements before going. The changeover around midnight describes my experience, rather than a guaranteed nightly schedule.
