The Segovian is a free, independent publication. This notice explains how we handle subscription and contact details.
Who is responsible?
Allan Barrera is the data controller for The Segovian, https://www.thesegovian.com. For privacy requests, email ceo@thesegovian.com.
Newsletters and your account
We use your email address, your name if provided, and your subscription preferences to send The Segovian’s free newsletters and editorial updates, manage your subscription and provide account access. We retain the records needed to document your signup and preferences.
Newsletter delivery is based on your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). The signup notice asks you to agree to these emails. Your email is required to subscribe; subscribing is not required to read freely accessible articles. You may withdraw consent at any time using the unsubscribe link in each newsletter or by contacting us. Withdrawal does not affect earlier lawful processing.
We have disabled Ghost’s optional web analytics, email-open tracking, email-click tracking and member-source tracking. We do not use subscription data for third-party advertising or automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects.
Messages and contributions
If you contact us, we use your name, email, message and any optional telephone number to answer your enquiry or review your proposal. This is based on our legitimate interest in responding to communications you initiate (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). Sending a message does not subscribe you to a newsletter. Please do not send identity documents, passwords or unnecessary sensitive information through the forms.
If you use member comments, your chosen display name and comment may be visible to other readers. Providing the commenting service is based on your request to use it; moderation and security are based on our legitimate interest in protecting readers and the publication.
Service providers
Ghost(Pro), provided by Ghost Foundation Ltd, hosts the publication and manages member accounts and email delivery. Contact and contribution forms use Formspree, Inc.; editorial correspondence is handled through Microsoft 365. These services process the information needed to operate their respective functions. Hosting and content-delivery providers also receive technical connection information, such as IP addresses, to deliver and protect the site.
We do not sell subscriber lists or share them with advertisers. Information may be disclosed where required by law. An agreed contributor byline or a comment you choose to publish is separate from the private subscription list.
International processing
Providers may process information outside the European Economic Area. Ghost’s data-processing agreement provides for standard contractual clauses for relevant transfers to countries without an equivalent level of protection. Formspree states that it processes information in the United States and other countries where it operates. Microsoft also uses international service infrastructure.
Provider information: Ghost data-processing terms, Formspree privacy information and Microsoft privacy statement. You can contact us for information about the safeguards applicable to your data and how to obtain a copy.
How long we keep information
We retain subscription information while your subscription or account remains active. Unsubscribing stops newsletter delivery; you can also request account deletion. After a deletion request, only information necessary to honour your opt-out, comply with legal obligations or address potential claims will be retained, restricted or blocked where required, for the applicable limitation periods, then deleted.
Enquiries are kept while we deal with them and for up to 12 months after closure, unless a continuing editorial relationship or a legal obligation requires longer retention. Public comments remain until removed or the account’s associated data is dealt with following a valid rights request.
Your rights
You may request access, rectification, erasure, restriction and portability, and object where applicable, by emailing ceo@thesegovian.com. Identify the email address concerned. We only request additional identity information if necessary and proportionate.
We normally respond within one month. Where the GDPR permits an extension, we will explain it within that first month. You may complain to the Spanish Data Protection Agency at aepd.es, or to another competent supervisory authority.
Cookies and changes
See our cookies information for the current site configuration. We will update this notice when our practices change and request fresh consent before introducing a new purpose that requires it.
