Segovia–Cercedilla trains return after works: check before travelling
Rail travel between Segovia and Cercedilla resumed on 19 September 2026 after infrastructure works temporarily closed the route. Renfe said Adif had completed the planned work and that the usual train timetable could return. During the interruption, passengers were moved by replacement buses between the two towns.
The reopening restores one of Segovia’s most useful regional rail connections. Cercedilla is both a destination in its own right and an interchange for travellers continuing towards Madrid or the Sierra de Guadarrama. For residents without a car, the line also provides access to towns and hiking areas that are difficult to reach through Segovia’s urban bus network.
What has changed for passengers?
Renfe’s announcement means trains are once again operating instead of the road-replacement service used during the works. Passengers who had adapted their journeys to the temporary buses should therefore check the railway timetable again rather than relying on information saved during the closure.
The restoration does not mean every journey will be identical to one taken before the works. Departure times, connections and platform information can change, particularly at weekends or when further maintenance is scheduled. Anyone travelling to Madrid through Cercedilla should leave enough time for the interchange and verify the complete journey, not only the Segovia–Cercedilla section.
Why the line matters locally
This is a conventional regional service rather than the high-speed connection from Segovia-Guiomar. Its value lies in the places it connects and in the alternative it offers to road travel. For students, workers, older residents and visitors, restoring the train expands the number of practical choices available for moving through the province and towards the Madrid region.
The route also has a leisure dimension. Cercedilla is a common starting point for mountain activities, but conditions in the Sierra can differ sharply from those in Segovia. Travellers planning a walking route should check weather, daylight and local transport before departure and avoid treating the rail reopening as confirmation that every trail or connecting service is operating normally.
What to check before leaving
Renfe recommends consulting current journey information for the chosen date. Its passenger information line is 912 320 320. A restoration notice confirms that the closure ended; it is not a live guarantee that a particular train will run without alteration.
International residents should also note that regional services do not always use the same booking process or station as high-speed trains. Search using the exact origin and destination, confirm whether a transfer is required, and check which Segovia station appears on the itinerary. If you are travelling with a bicycle, reduced mobility or substantial luggage, consult the conditions for the specific service in advance.
The wider picture
Temporary closures are disruptive, but maintenance is part of keeping regional infrastructure usable. The more important question for passengers is whether information remains clear while work is under way and whether the restored service offers a dependable alternative afterwards. For Segovia, reliable conventional rail is particularly valuable because it connects people who are not necessarily travelling through the high-speed corridor.
For now, the practical message is straightforward: the train is back, the replacement road service has ended, and travellers should return to Renfe’s live timetable when planning their journey.
