The pleasure of a table you don’t want to leave
4 tasting notes · 3 photographs · A suggested orderSome meals are built around a reservation. Others are built around the hope that nobody will look at the time. Casa Lumbre belongs to the second idea: warm stone, a little candlelight and a table that fills gradually with things worth sharing. Its menu takes familiar Spanish flavours and gives them room to breathe, without turning dinner into a ceremony.

Slow-roasted lamb
The lamb is the centre of gravity: a glossy, deeply browned exterior, soft meat and a spoonful of smooth potato purée to catch the juices. Green vegetables bring a welcome change of texture to an otherwise rich plate. This is the sort of main that asks for a measured beginning; order too many starters and its generosity could become a challenge. A glass of Spanish red makes an easy companion.
Mushroom croquettes
A good croquette depends on contrast. Here, the sample menu imagines a thin, crisp shell giving way to a creamy mushroom filling, earthy rather than heavily perfumed. Six pieces make a sociable first order for two or three people. Their richness is part of the appeal, but a vegetable dish alongside would keep the opening of the meal from feeling too heavy.
Order something for the middle. Leave room for the last course.

Seasonal greens
The greens give the table a brighter note: blistered edges, olive oil and a little salt, with enough bite to stand beside the roast. They are a supporting dish with a useful job, cutting through the softer textures of purée and croquettes. For a group sharing several courses, this is where a little restraint pays off; simple vegetables need little decoration.
Burnt cheesecake
The cheesecake brings a darker, caramelised top over a soft centre, with berries adding a sharp counterpoint. Its appeal is in that balance between richness and freshness, rather than an elaborate presentation. Sharing a slice feels like the right finish after lamb; anyone with a serious sweet tooth might reasonably prefer to keep a plate to themselves.
Casa Lumbre’s imagined strength is the whole evening: food with recognisable pleasures, a room that encourages conversation and a menu that rewards sharing. It is a better fit for a date or a reunion than a rushed lunch. The richer dishes and occasion-level spend are worth bearing in mind, but the promise is clear: arrive hungry, order thoughtfully and make an evening of it.

A better reason to linger over breakfast
4 tasting notes · 3 photographs · A suggested orderThe best café mornings rarely need much planning: a good cup, something warm from the pastry counter and a friend with a story to tell. Miga & Luz turns that small pleasure into a neighbourhood café concept, all pale wood, soft green details and light falling across the table. The menu is compact, but there is enough contrast to turn a quick coffee into a proper breakfast.

The flat white
Coffee leads the story. The imagined flat white has a fine, glossy milk texture and an espresso base that stays present beneath it, rather than disappearing into a large, milky cup. It is a small drink for someone who enjoys the coffee itself. Those who prefer a longer breakfast drink might choose differently, but with a pastry alongside, its proportions make sense.
Pistachio croissant
The croissant is about layers: a brittle outer shell, a tender centre and pistachio bringing nuttiness to the sweetness. A scattering of chopped nuts adds another little crunch. This is the indulgent order on the table, particularly beside a milky coffee, so splitting one can be a happy compromise when the toast also catches your eye.
A flaky pastry, a proper coffee and no hurry to ask for the bill.

Fig, ricotta and honey toast
Thick toast provides the structure for soft ricotta, ripe figs and a light ribbon of honey. The fruit brings both sweetness and texture, while the cheese keeps the combination gentle rather than sugary. It is the most convincing centrepiece for a leisurely breakfast in this sample menu. The balance matters: too much honey would obscure the figs, and the bread should still offer a satisfying bite.
Iced matcha
The iced matcha offers a cooler, greener alternative to a second coffee. Its imagined flavour is gently vegetal with a creamy finish, making it a useful contrast to the buttery pastry. It will appeal most to people who enjoy matcha’s distinctive character; those looking for a very sweet drink should make that preference clear rather than expect a dessert in a glass.
Miga & Luz is imagined for the smaller occasions that make a neighbourhood feel like home: a catch-up, a late breakfast, a pause before a busy afternoon. The food is more substantial than a pastry-only stop, but it is still a café offering rather than a full lunch menu. Its attraction is a carefully put-together morning, with enough choice to return for something different.

Where the first drink becomes an evening
4 tasting notes · 3 photographs · A suggested orderThere is a particular kind of bar that makes the outside world feel a little further away. Ámbar Social imagines it in dark wood, burgundy velvet and pools of warm lamplight. The menu gives equal attention to what is in the glass and what arrives beside it: something bitter, something bright, something alcohol-free, and a few small plates to keep the conversation going.

Smoked orange old fashioned
This is the fuller, more deliberate drink in the sample collection: an amber spirit base, the aromatic lift of orange peel and a suggestion of smoke. A large ice cube keeps the presentation simple. It suits someone who enjoys a spirit-forward cocktail rather than a sweet, fruit-led one. The smoke should be an accent; too much would overwhelm the citrus and turn a balanced drink into a performance.
Ruby citrus spritz
The spritz takes the evening in a lighter direction, with citrus, bubbles and a bitter edge that makes it feel at home before food. Its jewel-like colour supplies the drama, while the flavour should remain refreshing. This is the natural first order for a group easing into the night, especially with olives or peppers. Anyone sensitive to bitterness may prefer the softer alcohol-free option.
A well-made drink deserves good company — and something salty alongside.

Rosemary sour
The rosemary sour gives the non-drinking guest something with its own identity: bright citrus, an herbal aroma and a soft, lightly foamed finish. The idea is balance and texture, not simply removing the spirit from another recipe. Rosemary can quickly dominate, so the imagined version keeps the herb in the background. It is a thoughtful match for the salty small plates, with enough freshness to hold its own.
Jamón, manchego and padrón peppers
The tapas provide the savoury counterpoint: silky slices of jamón, firm manchego with a nutty finish, olives and blistered padrón peppers. Bread makes the platter easy to share, and the mix of textures keeps each mouthful interesting. This is food for grazing over drinks rather than a substitute for a full dinner. The peppers add a playful uncertainty: the occasional hot one can change the pace.
The imagined sweet spot is an early evening with friends or a date that begins without a fixed plan. Ámbar Social offers the atmosphere for lingering, but its cocktail-led prices make it more of a considered outing than a budget round. Choose a drink that suits your palate, order a little food and decide later whether the evening needs a second chapter.
