Producers of the protected Judión de La Granja expect a sharply reduced harvest after repeated summer heatwaves, according to a report in El Adelantado on 13 October.

Guzmán Gilsanz, a technician for the product’s quality mark and a seed-bank grower, told the newspaper that output could fall by 50–70% from the previous campaign. Harvesting is still under way, so this remains a forecast, not a final tally.

He attributed the damage to sustained heat, including high night-time temperatures, affecting flowering and pollination. He said bean size and quality had nevertheless held up. The immediate story is pressure on production of a distinctive local food; the report does not establish a retail-price increase.
