More than books: Segovia’s library opens an October of film and conversation
Segovia’s public library is starting October with reasons to visit beyond borrowing a book. Its programme marks ten years in its current building and brings film, architecture and family activities into the same public space.
On Tuesday, 6 October, at 19:00, the documentary Micromundos will be screened for Spanish Cinema Day, followed by a discussion involving Eliseo de Pablos and Segovia artist Luis Moro.
On Wednesday, 7 October, at 18:00, architect Benjamín Cano will discuss the library’s exterior mural and the relationship between the building, art and public space. Cano designed both the building and the mural.
A useful stop for families
The programme also includes Bebés de cuento on Friday, 9 October, at 18:00 for children aged 6–36 months; advance registration is required. On Saturday, 10 October, at 12:00, Katúa Teatro presents Cosas que contar, recommended for children over three, with admission until capacity is reached.
Check the library’s programme before setting out: age recommendations, registration and available places vary between activities. These listings do not imply that sessions are delivered in English.
Why it matters
Our assessment: for newcomers, a public library can be an introduction to the city’s cultural life without needing an established social network. Attending a screening or a conversation creates a different relationship with Segovia from simply visiting its monuments.
