Spain votes on 29 November: what the early election means for Segovia
Updated 7 October 2026. Spain’s early general election is now official. The decree published in the BOE on 6 October dissolves Congress and the Senate and sets polling day for Sunday 29 November.
The dates and the local stakes
The official campaign runs from 13 to 27 November. Segovia will elect three members of Congress and four senators. The new chambers are due to meet on 23 December.
For residents, the practical issue is how the next parliamentary majority approaches housing, public spending and employment. Our assessment: the campaign creates a moment to scrutinise concrete proposals on rents and opportunity, rather than assume that a change of government will immediately change everyday rules.
What does not change overnight
An election announcement does not itself rewrite tenancy contracts or cancel existing entitlements. Proposed measures should be distinguished from laws already in force. These are national elections; Segovia is not choosing a new city council on this date.
International residents should also distinguish residence from voting eligibility: living in Spain, including as an EU citizen, does not by itself confer a vote in national elections. Check official electoral information for your own situation.
